Terror in the Tub

Thursday, 27 August, 2009

Just wanted to post a few quick pictures from Kara’s first bath yesterday.  We were excited to try out the Whale Tub!  As you can see, going into it, she was very calm and collected.  She didn’t inherit her father’s love for water, so once she touched it, she went nuclear.  Afterward, she did get a warm and cuddly reception in her frog towel!

We Made It – Week #2

Monday, 24 August, 2009

Just wanted to  give a quick update as well as throw out a couple of new pictures.  We made it to week #2 and Kara is doing great, though still trying to tame her 2-4 AM party time.  She is doing so well, we had to snap order more diapers from Amazon because she is flying through them and growing.  Kara’s favorite thing in the world is this pacifier (soothie 2.0), but mine is turning out to be the Velcro swaddle that even Harry Houdini couldn’t escape from.

Oh ya, I clunkered my old Explorer before the program ended.  I ended up picking up a Honda Pilot, which is better in almost every single way.  I can already see the trips to Disney!  Hopefully, I’ll get some pictures of my new ride up soon.

Introducing Kara Leanne Barrett

Tuesday, 18 August, 2009

Here are some pictures from Kara Leanne Barrett’s first week!  She arrived healthy and happy on 8/12/09 at 2:55pm weighing in at 7lbs and 14 oz.  Jessica is doing well and on the mend.  Everyone is enjoying being home together, and we are going through diapers like crazy!

Here are some nuggets of wisdom I have discovered while being a Dad over the past few days:

  • When you are holding the baby and she latches onto your nose, you know that she is hungry.
  • If you want the baby to use the bathroom, just take her diaper off for a split second on the bedroom floor and then watch the fireworks ensue (have carpet cleaner handy).
  • “Burrito Night” was an excellent preparation for learning to swaddle.
  • Having a huge stack of diapers on hand gives a false sense of security when you go through 10+ a day.

Chocolate Chip Cookies et al.

Tuesday, 11 August, 2009

Here is one of the recipes that I make the most, and I actual use it as a base for other cookie variations found at the end of the recipe.  This cookie strives to be a relatively healthy chocolate chip cookie while maintaining as much cookie goodness as possible.  The whole wheat flour and lower sugar amount helps tame the glucose spikes.  The no (artificial) hydrogenated oils helps the heart and a whole lot of other things.  For me,  this means more cookies, more of the time!

“Baby Barrett” is almost here…

Saturday, 8 August, 2009

She will be here sometime before Friday.   I’ll be sure and post some pictures here once she arrives, along with the official name unveiling!  In the mean time, here are just a few shots from our Honeymoon a few years ago to make sure I’ve got the images working correctly.

P.S.  The food section won’t work until I start posting some recipes.
