Kara and I went to our first corn maze today; however, Jessica is the corn maze veteran of the family. This particular one at Fender’s Farm in Jonesborough was spread out over 7 acres. It was a good time and Kara managed to get us out, just barely. We saw lots of pumpkins out there, so now its appropriate to watch “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown”.
PS. We also had a shot of Kara from Wake’s homecoming that we had to throw in as well.

Well, we had a great Easter together and the weather was beautiful! Kara got to meet some other babies her age at Church. She didn’t know what to think about them, so she just kind of watched them like she does the dog!
We did survive dying Easter Eggs the day before. Kara went for a green egg and got an emerald colored tongue as a result.

Just a quick pic Jessica snapped of Dad and Daughter watching the Food Network. Kara seriously digs the Next Iron Chef and Dinner Impossible.

Well, Halloween came and went this year. We had a little over thirty Trick-or-Treaters, which is pretty good considering the rain. We also had a good time making a Jack-O-Lantern, but I forgot how nasty they are inside. As evidenced by the pictures below, we did catch a little Lady Bug. She scared us at first, then we realized she was just a cutie!

Here are some pictures from Kara Leanne Barrett’s first week! She arrived healthy and happy on 8/12/09 at 2:55pm weighing in at 7lbs and 14 oz. Jessica is doing well and on the mend. Everyone is enjoying being home together, and we are going through diapers like crazy!
Here are some nuggets of wisdom I have discovered while being a Dad over the past few days:
- When you are holding the baby and she latches onto your nose, you know that she is hungry.
- If you want the baby to use the bathroom, just take her diaper off for a split second on the bedroom floor and then watch the fireworks ensue (have carpet cleaner handy).
- “Burrito Night” was an excellent preparation for learning to swaddle.
- Having a huge stack of diapers on hand gives a false sense of security when you go through 10+ a day.
